The third leg of the Choosing Renewables conference series in Bacolod City on 14-15 August 2024 organized an information campaign on various voluntary renewable energy programs and a public consultation on draft GEOP policy improvements. The event was organized by the DOE, The Climate Reality Project Philippines, and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC).
The second leg of the Choosing Renewables conference series, held in Tacloban City last 07-08 August 2024, brought together business entities, electric cooperatives, distribution utilities, and local government units to promote climate-friendly energy solutions.
The first leg of Choosing Renewables was held in the Laguna economic zone where a great number of businesses demand urgent access to renewable energy. The event was organized by the Department of Energy, The Climate Reality Project Philippines, and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities.
To raise awareness and increase participation of ecozones in voluntary renewable energy mechanisms, DOE, ICSC, and Climate Reality PH launched the Choosing Renewables series. GEOP is of particular interest because it allows eligible entities to source 100% power from renewable energy without capital costs.
Achieving genuine energy security in the Philippines necessitates a comprehensive approach encompassing sufficiency, reliability, resilience, affordability, accessibility, and sustainability.
While the unified Philippine grid highlighted by the President in this year’s SONA holds promise for underserved communities in the short run, it falls short of addressing the broader energy crisis.
At the recently concluded hybrid conference, “REalize for Hospitals: Empowering a Climate-Resilient Health Sector with Renewable Energy,” The Climate Reality Project Philippines, in collaboration with Health Care Without Harm Southeast Asia (HCWH SEA), gathered stakeholders from the government, civil society organizations, and healthcare facilities to discuss the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
