Eleventh Hour: Development and environment protection are not mutually exclusive

In our Manila Bulletin column Eleventh Hour this week, Pinoy Climate Reality Leader Aprille Juanillo delved into the proposed 174-hectare reclamation project in Dumaguete City, which was dubbed as a “monumental ecological disaster” by scientists, experts, professionals, fisherfolk, and even ordinary citizens.

In this article, Aprille highlighted that we cannot pit development against the environment because any true development is also environmentally sound.

“Genuine sustainable development is reliant on making the environment more livable for everybody—and any true leader would understand this,” Aprille noted, as she highlighted that the upcoming mayoral race in Dumaguete as a referendum to the 174-ha reclamation project.
