The Department of Energy (DOE) is prioritizing end-user aggregation and alternative replacement power options as key elements in the revised Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) rules. This was presented during the Choosing Renewables Conference series in Laguna, Leyte, Bacolod, and Cagayan de Oro last July and August 2024, aimed at addressing critical challenges faced by GEOP end-users and suppliers.
The third leg of the Choosing Renewables conference series in Bacolod City on 14-15 August 2024 organized an information campaign on various voluntary renewable energy programs and a public consultation on draft GEOP policy improvements. The event was organized by the DOE, The Climate Reality Project Philippines, and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC).
The second leg of the Choosing Renewables conference series, held in Tacloban City last 07-08 August 2024, brought together business entities, electric cooperatives, distribution utilities, and local government units to promote climate-friendly energy solutions.
The first leg of Choosing Renewables was held in the Laguna economic zone where a great number of businesses demand urgent access to renewable energy. The event was organized by the Department of Energy, The Climate Reality Project Philippines, and the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities.
The DOE has been featuring success stories and gathering input from stakeholders that will inform policy amendments to improve GEOP through the series of Information, Education, and Communication Campaign on GEOP and Other Renewable Energy Voluntary Programs, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development—Energy Secure Philippines, which concluded its last leg in Iloilo City on 09 May 2024.
More businesses are enjoying the benefits of switching to renewable energy through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) as the demand for renewable energy access also increases.
