Climate Reality PH: Streamlined transition process needed for LGUs to switch to renewables

Last July 29, The Climate Reality Project Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), gathered energy stakeholders in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, for a forum entitled Choosing Renewables: Information Campaign on the Green Energy Option Program and Other Voluntary Renewable Energy Mechanisms.

Speakers included officials from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Region 7 – Central Visayas (DepDEV), the Independent Electricity Market Operators of the Philippines (IEMOP); and First Gen Corporation. DOE proposes key improvements to GEOP rules

The Department of Energy (DOE) is prioritizing end-user aggregation and alternative replacement power options as key elements in the revised Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) rules. This was presented during the Choosing Renewables Conference series in Laguna, Leyte, Bacolod, and Cagayan de Oro last July and August 2024, aimed at addressing critical challenges faced by GEOP end-users and suppliers.
