“We thank the 18th Congress for standing in solidarity with climate and environmental groups in the Philippines in calling for the global community to align its actions with the 1.5°C global goal of the Paris Agreement and for mandating all government instrumentalities to maximize the utilization of their resources towards sustainable and climate-resilient development.
In line with the spirit of this resolution, we urge the incoming 19th Congress to put climate action front and center of its policy agenda and to challenge and complement the executive departments’ implementation of climate change-related programs and projects.
For our people to survive and thrive amid the climate crisis, we must anchor our development approaches on transformational long-term strategies that will not only address episodic climate-related events but will also embed sustainability and resilience into our economic systems.
We vow to work closely with our next set of lawmakers in developing more policies that will create a more enabling environment for the country’s transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy.
