From super typhoons battering our communities to rising sea level reshaping our coastlines, and heatwaves threatening the most vulnerable, the climate crisis does not stop at borders. The Asia region continues to battle the impacts of the climate emergency.
Now, our movement is merging efforts to match the scale of the challenge.
We’re pleased to announce The Climate Reality Project Asia, a renewed and more unified Branch based in the Philippines; bringing together Climate Reality Leaders and partners from Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and beyond. We are connected more than ever not just by borderlines, but by a shared commitment to building a healthier future rooted in justice.
Now merged, the Asia Branch will be a center for climate action in the region. Overseeing Climate Reality’s global campaigns in reducing emissions, financing a just transition, and promoting global climate leadership, the Branch will support city hubs driving real change in local communities.
Hosted by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), Climate Reality Asia will continue to grow; Jakarta and Tokyo will soon see their climate hubs take root.
The energy transition is accelerating, but so are entrenched interests that would delay it and steer it towards false solutions. In this moment, solidarity among regions and sectors is the only path forward.
The Leaders who guided our branches understand this deeply, and spoke about their vision for our Asia-based networks and partners to work together in the months and years to come.
Amanda Katili Niode, Branch Manager of Climate Reality Indonesia offers a reflection shaped by nearly two decades of leadership. “The Climate Reality Project Asia can become a powerful force for genuine change by bringing together the experience, energy, and relationships built across the region.”
“Having led Climate Reality Indonesia for seventeen years has shown me how many forms climate leadership can take. My hope is that we learn from one another, value different perspectives and experiences, and work more closely together,” she adds.
From Climate Reality Japan’s Branch Manager, Yuiko Mitani speaks to the collaborative spirit that defined the Branch and now extends across the region. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together in building a truly unique community in Japan and fostering community-led climate action across the country. This is through initiatives of individuals across various industries and regions – organizers, thematic Action Groups, partners, and each and every one of our Climate Reality Leaders.”
Emphasizing the importance of connection, she affirms, “under the new regional structure, I encourage all to connect with each other, and find and execute climate solutions that make the most impact for your community in our versatile region—collaboration is always our strength!”
From the country confronting supertyphoons and crisis in governance, Aimee Oliveros, Branch Manager of Climate Reality Asia affirmed that our Filipino Climate Reality Leaders have met every challenge with courage, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to their communities. “As we step into this unified Asia Branch, we carry with us the lessons learned and relationships built over the years of difficult but hopeful work. This evolution is an expansion of our aspirations for the people of the region.”
In the coming weeks, you’ll start seeing the newly merged Climate Reality Asia Branch more frequently. New city hubs are forming. Leaders are connecting. Campaigns are being rolled out. There is hope in the fact that this movement is no longer fragmented by geography. We act not in isolation, but in solidarity.
The choices we make now will shape generations, and Climate Reality Asia is alongside you in building a better, more just world.
