If only the eyes could speak

by Catherine Joyce Arandia

If only the eyes could speak
it would shout to my soul
of how beautiful I am
with those smoky eyes of mine
made of carbon and coal

If only the eyes could speak
it would sing a song of worship
to the gods of future
of how I believed in tomorrow
only to find out that it will never come today

If only the eyes could speak
it would pray for repentance
on the damage that has been done
and how they lie on their lies
without a pint of remorse

If only the eyes could speak
it would cry a river
just to fill the oceans
and let the fish breathe
freely, without plastics

If only the eyes could speak
if it could only be
oh, how I wished it can be
because I have no eyes to see
I was blinded by me
