The Climate Reality Project Philippines is the country chapter of The Climate Reality Project, an organization that aims to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society. It is founded by former US and Nobel laureate Al Gore and has trained over 46,568 Climate Reality Leaders in 190 countries to help find solutions to the global climate crisis. To this end, the organization recruits, trains, and mobilizes people from all walks of life to work for just climate solutions that speed energy transition worldwide and open the door to a better tomorrow for us all.

The Climate Reality Project Philippines re-launched in 2020 with a new approach to place its roster of Pinoy Climate Reality Leaders and their initiatives at the core of its action plan. It provides capacity development services to its diverse and thriving community of 1,800 Filipino Climate Reality Leaders from the public, private, and youth sectors to empower them to promote renewable energy, sustainable urban mobility, and other development approaches in pursuit of genuine and lasting climate resilience for the country.

The Climate Reality Philippines is hosted by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), an international non-government group advancing fair climate policy and low carbon and climate-resilient development.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Visayas Coordinator will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Engagement Lead in the development and implementation of a workplan for the year, that will enable and inspire Climate Reality Leaders to consistently and actively engage with The Climate Reality Project Philippines in its campaigning activities to advance renewable energy, sustainable urban mobility, climate finance, zero-waste solutions, including the phaseout single-use plastics; and other development approaches; and further elevate their Acts of Leadership;
  • Coordinate the implementation of programs and projects of The Climate Reality Project Philippines in the Visayas region, including the conduct of preparatory meetings, inception workshops, trainings, and consultations with key stakeholders, Climate Reality Leaders, and volunteers;
  • Coordinate the requirements for the implementation of capacity development and training programs for Climate Reality Leaders that would deepen and broaden their understanding of climate science, policy, and governance (Klima Eskwela); and acquire new skills, approaches, and tools on how to be an effective climate advocate (Klima Pandayan), in the Visayas region;
  • Support the roll-out of Klima Ug Kalikupan in partnership with Cebu Technological University (CTU);
  • In coordination with Climate Reality Leaders and the Engagement Lead, spearhead the development of regional guidebooks on campaigning;
  • Build an ecosystem of strategic partners from the government, private business sector, other civil society organizations, and the academe within the Visayas Region that will scale the programs and impact of The Climate Reality Project Philippines;
  • Through the Cluster System, support the Cluster Coordinators in the development and implementation of sector-specific projects and events;
  • Monitor and assess the implementation of programs and projects of The Climate Reality Project Philippines in the Visayas region based on preidentified key results, through a well-designed survey/ feedback mechanism, including proper documentation for submission to the Engagement Lead every quarter;
  • Write a quarterly column that will consolidate and feature the initiatives of Climate Reality Leaders in the Visayas region; and
  • Maintain an up-to-date regional database of Climate Reality Leaders’ and volunteers’ profiles, contact details, their engagements and initiatives, and respective affiliations in the Visayas region.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The Visayas Coordinator will have the following education, professional experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Graduate in a relevant discipline (e.g. social studies, organizational development, human resource, public relations, international relations, public policy, communications, or a related field);
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ extensive professional experience supporting or managing public relations, project management, program and project monitoring and evaluation, institutional and capacity development; 
  • Work experience with international organization, national government, local government units, civil society, international organizations will be an advantage;
  • Good understanding of the Government of Philippines, both at national and local levels, and knowledgeable on global and national issues and initiatives in the areas of climate change and green growth climate change agenda;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Filipino;
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work under pressure and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with people of different backgrounds;
  • Maturity and professional ability to handle sensitive information and ability to respect the confidentiality of such information while working with The Climate Reality Project Philippines and ICSC even after the contract ends; and
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
SUPERVISION

The Visayas Coordinator will have the following reportorial and supervisory relationships:

  • Directly report to the Branch Manager of The Climate Reality Project Philippines who will conduct an annual 360° evaluation of performance; and
  • Closely work with Engagement Lead and Mindanao Coordinator of The Climate Reality Project Philippines.
WORKING HOURS
  • The work of the Visayas Coordinator will be mostly home-based and is encouraged to shelter in place and take precautions necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Visayas Coordinator must be available online to work with The Climate Reality Project Philippines at least four (4) days a week, from Monday to Thursday.
  • Should the work require an in-person participation, The Climate Reality Project Philippines will implement proper COVID-19 protocols such as antigen testing before and after the event.
